SHRI PURANCHANDRA GUPTA SMARAK TRUST

Shri Puranchandra Gupta Smarak Trust was established in the year 1987 to perpetuate the sacred memory of late Shri Puran Chandra Gupta, the founder Managing Editor of Dainik Jagran being the largest read newspaper of the country across all languages as an educational society for the purpose of developing and catering the need of educational, spiritual, cultural, medical and other philanthropic purposes. One of the main objectives for establishment of the society was to serve the society by establishing educational institutions to give benefit to the persons irrespective of cost, creed, race or religion and without having any profit motive.

During the last 20 years, various eminent personalities have participated as Chief Guest on the various functions/programmes organized by the constituent schools and institutes such as Late Rajiv Gandhi, Ex- Prime Minister of India, the Trust is fortunate to welcome such stalwarts as Shri Vidya Charan Shukla, Shri Motilal Vohra, Shri Madhav Rao Scindia, Shri Murli Manohar Joshi, Shri Romesh Bhandari, Shri Chandra Shekhar, Shri Yashwant Sinha, Shri Vishnu Kant Shastri, Shri Nitish Kumar, Shri Arun Jaitley, Shri Shriprakash Jaiswal, Shri Shivraj Patil, Shri Praful Patel, Smt. Sheela Dixit, Shri Jaspal Rana , Smt. Sonal Mansingh, Mrs Pratibha Patil and Shri Rahul Gandhi.

It is the vision of the Trust that it should increase its wings to provide more educational institutions all over the country as a centre of excellence to enlighten and to serve the public in general and also to take various initiatives in the masses to improve their living standard and to reduce inequalities pertaining to health and poverty. The Trust has been taking pioneer efforts at the time of natural and national calamities such as floods and earthquakes or in other wide-spread natural calamities. In these efforts, the Trust has accumulated large amount of donations for such causes from the public apart from its own contribution and has donated to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund or to the respective Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The Trust has also took initiatives to support the Kargil War widows and contributed to construct a hostel for Kargil War’s widows, sons and daughters at the Command Area, Lucknow. In this way, we are striving to fulfill our social commitment for which Jagran has been founded by its founder Late Shri Puran Chandra Gupta.

Puran Chandra Vidya Niketan

Shri Puranchandra Gupta Smarak Trust, after its formation, has established one educational institution namely Puran Chandra Vidya Niketan at Kanpur in 1991 to provide quality education right from class-I to middle level i.e. up to 10 + 2. With the passage of time, Puranchandra Vidyaniketan has come to age and has established its credentials as one of the best institutions not only in Kanpur but also in whole of U.P. At present Puranchandra Vidyaniketan is providing quality education with excellent extra curricular activities to about 2000 students right from Nursery to 12th Standard. It is recognized by CBSE Board. Its educational standard and achievements can be compared with any Public School in the country.

Lakshmi Devi Lalit Kala Academy

The promoters of the Trust have also established a separate platform to foster the various cultural legacies of this country in the name of Lakshmi Devi Lalit Kala Academy. This platform, promotes Indian Arts and Culture all over the country. The academy encourages popularity of music (classical, sub-classical, instrumental and non-instrumental) by inviting the persons of fame from various parts of the country. It facilitates the development of arts, sculpture and classical dances etc and provides platform to literary persons, media persons and educationists for encouragement of Indian Culture and Indian languages. It also provides scholarships, prices and honour to those who have contributed to the development of various arts and culture. The Academy preserves cultural heritage and literary advancement by providing encouragement to the young generation. It also holds National and International level seminars and workshops etc. to strengthen the cultural relations among various countries.

JAGRAN PRAKASHAN LIMITED

Jagran Prakashan Limited has grown consistently over the last 15 years though expansion and launch of newspaper brands across various states and languages and at the same time also made successful forays into other media like Magazines, Outdoor, Below the Line Marketing Solutions, Internet and Mobile Value Added Services. Apart from having the scale and size across every media platform, JPL has the objective of being the most professional communications solutions provider across every platform.

Dainik Jagran

Dainik Jagran is the flagship brand of Jagran Prakashan Limited. In today’s dynamic media world, where consumer have an unprecedented array of choices, Dainik Jagran stands out as a brand that is the choice of millions of Indians as they start their day. With a readership of 5.4 Crore, it has been the largest read daily of India for the last consecutive 18 rounds of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS). With 37 editions, Dainik Jagran covers 11 states of India. It has also been declared by the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) as largest read daily in the world. Not just the largest read, Dainik Jagran has also been voted as the Most Credible Source of News in a BBC – Reuter’s survey.

The genesis for Dainik Jagran was in the year 1942. The year when the freedom struggle of India reached its crescendo and found expression in the ‘Quit India Movement’, Dainik Jagran was launched during this time with the vision of our founder Shri Puran Chandra Gupta, to ‘Create a newspaper that would reflect the free voice of the people’. City Plus

City Plus is the weekly English tabloid from the group. It is an English News – Information – entertainment paper with 31 editions from Delhi, NCR, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad targeting premium geographic localities. As aesthetically designed all colour newspaper editorially it cover a variety of topics from Food, Fashion, Lifestyle etc. Apart from this, it also has reader interactivity through Contests, Coupons, Puzzles, Quiz, Crossword, Games, Polls, and Suggestions.

Mid-Day

MiD-DAY is India’s No.1 Afternoon paper from Jagran Prakashan Ltd. (JPL). MiD DAY has been the quintessential break the YUMPI (Young Urban Mobile Professionals across India) takes in the middle of their work day. MiD-DAY is printed from Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Bangalore. Over the last couple of years, the newspaper has been on a mission to up its engagement quotient with the YUMPI. Whether it is local news, career guidance, dream homes, a look at what’s on in the city or tips on style at work, MiD DAY’s sections have it all, alongside staple news and amusers like comics and crosswords, all presented in a YUMPI friendly way.

The company also has an established presence in the multimedia space, with its web version, www.mid-day.com with presently over 18 million page views per month as well as MiD DAY news feeds on cell phones which have over 2 lakh subscribers across the country. MiD-DAY Gujarati is the Gujarati Tabloid from Jagran Prakashan Ltd. With its unique content and engaging activities, it caters to the affluent Gujarati Community of Mumbai. It is positioned as a complete family newspaper with content for everyone. Apart from the other areas, the newspaper also has a dedicated business segment focusing on share market as majority of the community trade in these markets.

Inquilab

Inquilab is India’s No.1 Urdu Newspaper with a readership of 7 Lakhs. It has 12 editions covering Maharashtra, Delhi and UP and is further expanding. Inquilab made its appearance in 1938. An underground newspaper during the freedom struggle Mr. Abdul Hamid Ansari, a freedom fighter, wanted to use the medium of Urdu to educate the Muslims.

In the post-independence scenario, Inquilab shifted focus, concentrating on social reforms, education and employment as well as addressing the problems faced by the Muslim community.

Renowned columnists like Kuldip Nayyar, Bharat Jhunjhunwala, Shamim Tarique & Zafer Agha contribute to Inquilab. As the lodestone of a publishing house Inquilab stands tall in modern India. We continue to live in revolutionary times and Inquilab – ‘Revolution’ continues to be in the vanguard.

Sakhi

Sakhi is a premium women’s magazine targeted at upwardly mobile and outgoing women in the upper segment of the socio-economic class. The Sakhi reader retains her cultural values but is contemporary and modern in her outlook. The magazine also highlights the role of women in modern times and helps them in coping with the outside world.

Jagran.com

The group’s foray into the internet space has been through ‘jagran.com’ which is the largest hindi portal in its category. We have entered into a strategic alliance with Yahoo India to launch the co-branded site. This we believe will reshape the online hindi news and current affairs landscape – in terms of compelling customer experience and user engagement. Jagran.com is the largest language site in India with over 60 million page views per month with 37 pages per visitor and a unique user base of 1.6 million per month.

Punjabi Jagran

Punjabi Jagran, the Punjabi language daily of Jagran. The Punjabi language is very widely used in Punjab - and this runs across all the Pop Strata of Punjab. The language has great acceptance in the region, and it therefore makes an automatic choice for us to complete our bouquet for Punjab. With the launch of Punjabi Jagran, we hope to add newer readers, newer markets and strengthen the Jagran presence in complete Punjab.

Jagran Solutions

Jagran Solutions is the division that leads work in the Below the Line Marketing Solutions of Experiential Marketing area. Jagran Solutions has been at the forefront of transformation; transforming imagination into realities and ideas into beliefs. Jagran Engage

Jagran Engage is the Out Of Home (OOH) division of Jagran Prakashan Limited which specializes in out of home media solutions across India. Jagran Engage covers more than 900 towns spread across 370 districts in 27 states. Engage offers comprehensive Out-Of-Home (OOH) solutions to prospects and customers through its bouquet of offerings of Billboards and Hoardings, Unique street furniture, Transit and Mobile media besides being innovative and ambient to suit specific client requirements.

J9

J9 is the value added services division of Jagran Prakashan Limited, which is currently working in the field of mobile value added services and home shopping in an active manner. It has also launched an Online Digital Classified platform (khoje.in). Projects that are under planning include Online Gaming and Live Astro. J9Mobile, which is the mobile vertical of J9 offers Text, Voice and WAP services to users. J9Mobile also offers Enterprise and Brand solutions via 57272 platform.

Jagran Pehel

Jagran Pehel started functioning from August 2007. The existing global scenario with emphasis on liberalization of economy and dominance of market forces on the social structure creates a situation where social concerns are getting marginalized. Media not being an exception to this phenomenon, is struggling hard to accommodate the social issues, but the choices between social responsibility and market forces are becoming more and more difficult by the day.

As a responsible corporate citizen, Jagran Prakashan Limited supports a specifically dedicated organization, Pehel to discharge its social responsibilities and provide social services such as organizing workshops and seminars to voice different social issues, health camps and roadshows for creating awareness on the social concerns and helping underprivileged masses. Pehel is working with various national and international organizations such as World Bank on various projects to effectively discharge the responsibilities entrusted by the company. The company has also been assisting trusts and societies dedicated to the cause of promoting education, culture, healthcare etc.

“Jagran Pehel" with a support of one of the largest media houses in the country is actively involved in awareness generation and advocacy of social issues through innovative means of mass communication. Dainik Jagran's social initiative has been conceived with the thought that there are large numbers of governmental, semi-governmental and social organizations working towards various developmental and social causes who have not optimized the benefit of their cause which can be derived from media.

The thought is to assist organizations or individuals through social marketing. It is an initiated commitment towards changing mindsets. The goal is to improve the quality of human life by designing and implementing strategies that achieve high levels of community education, self-efficiency and beneficial behavioural change. Jagran Research Centre

Jagran Research Centre (JRC) was established in May 1996 as independent and premier multidisciplinary research and consulting organization. Jagran Research Centre is also involved in publishing reference books and magazines. These books include Jagran Yearbooks, Country and State wise statistical databank, Jagran Josh monthly magazine (www.jagranjosh.com) and others.

Jagran International

Jagran International is the international division of Jagran Prakashan Limited responsible for marketing the products of Jagran Prakashan Limited beyond the boundaries of India. Amongst other things it develops country reports for India and works with our International associates to develop India Reports in markets like Ireland, UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

JAGRAN FOUNDATION

Jagran Foundation started its functioning from January 2008. Dainik Jagran, One of India’s oldest media groups, is a pioneer of language journalism in India. Right from the outset, the group has remained true to its values of factual and unbiased reportage under all circumstances. It has continuously evolved to reflect the changing landscape of our society.

Jagran Foundation is a NGO belief that the process of development is not just time scaled and target oriented. Development is the process in which creation of conditions for development is more important and the resultant development should add value i.e. it must be qualitative, sustainable and equity oriented.

On top of being one of India’s largest media group, Dainik Jagran recognizes its obligation to try improving the quality of public policy. To do this, we have set up the Jagran Foundation, a non profit organization.

Jagran Forum

Under the banner of Jagran Foundation there are a series of initiatives that would help towards the larger cause of Nation building. The first in series of such initiatives is Jagran Forum, an annual conclave - our first step towards “Thought Leadership”. The first Jagran forum was on “Democracy, Development and Social Inclusion”. The second forum was on “Democracy and Conflict Resolution in Asia”. Third forum was on “Democracy: Challenges of Consensus Building”. All of them were attended by dignitaries from across India and the world including the Prime Minster and Vice President of India. Jagran Forum platform, under which various contemporary social problems are being solved, is created with a mission that the society may be enlightened.

Jagran Forum is the platform for an open exchange of ideas between decision – makers, respected thinkers and civil society, particularly those who are under represented in the making of public policy. We believe that the quality of discussions at Forum is invaluable to society at large. The Forum tackles important issues that impact India and the world at large.
